Compleanno (Birthday), 2015—2016
Photography, watercolour, ink, collage
Compleanno (Birthday) is the imaginary diary of five different characters representing the five personalities living inside me, in a choral tale of past, present and future: The Bride, The Lover, The Man, The Bourgeois Woman, The Children.
The bourgeois identity, the female figures of the bride and the lover, childhood, the male figure of the father are archetypes that come to life describing the society in which they were born, the identity they must have, the conventions within which they must be.
New inhabitants of the world, these characters are naive as children, their form of being is imperfect: the diary pages through which these figures narrate themselves is a secret unveiled. Each character is contained in various elements within their gestures and narrations, the actions take part in a world bordering on the real and the imaginary.
In a struggle for recognition as living archetypes in society's chronicle, the body becomes the true, the representation of the real, of an undeniable identity. Only through the body, always the same body, there is recognition and identification. The body is the instrument of freedom for the characters, through which they manifest themselves. In this narration, reality loses its meaning of evidence and documentation: as if in a play, the characters exist in an undefined space, replacing a defined and conventional identity with opportunity, repeating the same gestures, the same action, the same mistake, and consequently reiterating the themes of female identity, superimposition, limits, relationships, identity.
